Supporting each other in a squatting position.
This position opens the pelvis and hip joints. When held correctly, squatting provides a perfect angle of descent for the baby. The pelvic floor relaxes and the perineal tissues can stretch evenly. Will encourage the baby's head to engage into the brim of the pelvis (so not advised if your baby is in the breech position). Useful position to accelerate labour as your baby's head contacts the cervix strongly and gravity draws the baby downwards. Effective position for the delivery of the placenta in third stage.
